Question: How is ink dated?

Two main approaches can be used for determining the age of an ink: indirect dating and direct dating. Indirect dating is based on the chemical analysis of an ink followed by comparison with known samples in a reference collection. The second concept is based on measuring ink components that change with age.

Can ink on paper be dated?

Yes, with certain limitations. We can determine the first date of commercial availability of the ink used to prepare any handwritten or handprinted material. The type of ink does not preclude this examination. As the ink ages these components decrease and thus the approximate age of the writing can be determined.

How will you determine the age of the documents?

The age of documents may also be determined by examination of the paper, ink, toner and other attributes of the document. Some of these examinations require engaging specialists such as ink chemists, paper experts and others.

Do we get ink from octopus?

Typically octopus and squid produce black ink, but ink can also be brown, reddish, or even a dark blue. When feeling threatened, they can release large amounts of ink into the water using their siphon. This ink creates a dark cloud that can obscure the predators view so the cephalopod can jet away quickly.
