Question: Can a lawyer date a client while representing them?

To its credit, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, in its Standards of Conduct in Family Law Litigation, prohibits absolutely a sexual relationship with a client or opposing counsel during the time of the representation (§ 2.16 [1991]).

Can lawyers and clients date each other?

Overall the California rule is cautious but does not prohibit all sexual relations during representation. In essence, the California rule provides that sexual relations may create a conflict of interest. Thus, a lawyer can engage in sex with his client as long as he does not exploit the lawyer-client relation-ship.

Can therapists date their clients?

The American Psychological Association Code of Ethics, Section 10.05, states that psychologists do not engage in sexual intimacies with current therapy clients/patients. In most all states, laws prohibiting sex with clients are limited to current or recent clients.

Can therapists touch clients?

There is also the risk of ethical complaints, so most psychologists refrain from touching clients under any circumstances. The ethics code of the American Psychological Association does not prohibit non-sexual touch, while sexual contact, of course, is forbidden.
