Chiang Mai, especially, is a safe and inviting city for women, even those who are travelling unaccompanied. Thais are incredibly friendly and welcoming of foreigners, and many find foreigners quite attractive, so dont be surprised by flattery.

What is the best time to visit Chiang Mai?
The ideal time to visit Chiang Mai is between October and April. Weather during this period is mostly cool and pleasant with light breeze, which is also why its peak tourist season. Another good time to visit Chiang Mai is during the festivals when the city is at its vibrant best.
Is it OK to wear tank tops in Thailand?
The basic rule is to cover your shoulders and knees (both sexes), and ideally youd cover your ankles too. On the bottom, wear longer shorts, capris, pants/trousers or a knee-length-or-longer skirt. On top, choose any shirt that fully covers your shoulders. A T-shirt, blouse or polo is fine, while a tank top is not.
Is it safe to have ice in Thailand?
The vast majority of ice used in Thailand is produced commercially in hygienic and safe conditions from clean water. In restaurants, bars and clubs you will invariably be served ice in the form of cubes and there is no need to worry.
Is it rude to tip in Thailand?
Tipping is NOT customary in Thailand, there is absolutely NO mandatory requirement to tip anyone, but small gratuities for great service are very much appreciated. In all restaurants it is customary to leave behind any loose change in coins as a tip.
