As a middle schooler, let me give you parents some insight in to, what I think, is the real truth: dating in middle school is basically claiming somebody. Its saying I like you. No one else has the right to date you. We are accepted to be together and thats the way I like it.

Should middle school kids date?

There is no hard rule for when tweens should be allowed to date. Keep in mind that even if you forbid young relationships and dating, your tween may still spend lots of time with a special someone at school.

Can you have a girlfriend in 7th grade?

Some people might argue that you dont need a girlfriend in middle school, but in seventh and eighth grade most students seem to pair up. The question isnt really whether you need a girlfriend but whether you are ready for a girlfriend. Taking time away for a girlfriend could distract you and your grades might suffer.
