Most women can instead have their first scan at 11 to 13 weeks — this is usually called the 12-week scan. This scan can work out the due date and gestational age of the baby, if youre having more than one baby and also screen for conditions like Down syndrome.
How long does it take to get 12 week scan results?
When will I be given the results? Normal results will be confirmed in writing within 7 working days. If the result identifies the pregnancy as higher risk for any of the conditions you will be contacted by telephone within three days by the screening midwife.
What scans are done at 12 weeks?
A nuchal translucency scan is part of the ultrasound scan that most pregnant women have at around 12 weeks of pregnancy. If you decide to have the scan, the health professional performing the ultrasound will measure your babys nuchal translucency (a fluid-filled space at the back of your babys neck).
